Shows!

GMC is going to be rocking two shows next week, both are equally important to me and for a bigger cause than just having a good time. On Thursday July 22nd, we'll be rocking at Mazu along with Bored Stiff, Fist Fam, the ScoJourners, Associated Fresh, and more. It's a really dope occasion because it's a fundraiser for my homie Mint Rock from Bored Stiff to help raise money for him to publish a children's book he wrote. Ultimately the proceeds from this show will go to kid's education, so I really hope that y'all come out and support.

Also check us out at the 14th Annual Youth Arts Festival in Precita Park on Saturday, July 24th. I have a lot of love for this event because it's positive, graffiti-based, and I used to go regularly when I was a teenager. That's why I feel blessed to be performing there again. Come through and bring the family, there's spaces to paint, food, and dope music.

Hope to see y'all at each one!

Z-Man "Cupcakin" Remix

The folks at Machete Vox and Thizzler On The Roof recently put together a contest to remix my relly Z-Man's latest single Cupcakin'. I said fuck it and decided to hop in it and, hey, wouldn't ya know, I won 2nd place. Nice. Download my remix right here and peep the other winners on the Thizzler blog.

Also here's Z-Man's video for the original version of Cupcakin if you ain't up on game yet:

"My Cousin Is A Drug Dealer" Radio Show

Big ups to DJ West Kraven, DJ Travel, Mr. Burns, DJ Epic and all the other folks at All In Radio. Myself and the Gas Mask Colony slid through yesterday and chopped it up with them about our music, the group's history, Oscar Grant, and more. If you missed it, don't trip. Peep the podcast here.

The verdict.

By now, everyone has heard about the results of the Oscar Grant trial. We heard that Grant's killer is only going to be spending 4 years in prison (at the most). We've all seen the media frenzy over riots and looting. We've all read Mehserle's apology letter. We've seen footage of protests and demonstrations. Now what?

We have to remember to remember. Some people will say the justice system is messed up, there's no point in fighting it, chalk this one up and move on. So a couple months from now, when that one picture of a smiling Oscar Grant isn't plastered all over the internet and Mehserle is shipped off to the pen, does that mean that this event in our history is now over?

We also have to recognize all of the factors that came into play here. The constant oppression of "minorities" at the hands of military forces (police, army, etc.)- the Israeli army terrorizes Palestinians the same way the cops terrorize East Oakland residents. Also the nature of the US court system which was founded on the basis of white supremacy and has been historically reflecting that up to this present day. Another key factor is the constant media portrayal of black males as being scary and threatening, which created a bias in news coverage of this case; as well as justifying Mehserle's decision to try and use his tazer gun to subdue a young black man who was surrounded by other officers while lying on his stomach in handcuffs.

But all of these factors are already being ignored and covered up. Civil rights "leaders" like Jesse Jackson and others are more focused on Mel Gibson dropping the n-bomb. Lebron James going to the Heat is a bigger deal than Johann Mehserle going to prison. And the media outlets that did cover this case decided to focus more on predictions of rioting and looting than the real key factors involved in the trial and Oscar Grant's death.

Here's what we have to understand: that the Grant family was forced to deal with the killing of one of their own and the United States court system was unable and unwilling to give them justice for his death.

Don't forget.

New songs

What's good? The Points of Unity art show was majorly crackin' last night. Me and Telli Prego rocked it, so did the homie Patience. Also lots of dope artists came out and did their thing. I was still juiced this morning so I woke up early and went to the lab to mix down some new shit.

This is a track I wrote when I was thinking about what goes through my head when I approach a chick I'm hella attracted to and how shit can just crack off based on a quick moment in time. And also how sometimes relationships can be very meaningful even if they're temporary. My folks Okeefe & Telli Prego made the beat and it knocks.

I made this song while dealing with all the bullshit California courts have put me through. The financial crisis this state is in has public services in bad shape and they're taking it out on the people. Behind the fun, glamorous image people have of Cali there's a lot of grimey shit going down and some of it goes as far back as the gold rush. Real talk.

Download these songs at dregs1.bandcamp.com and as always I'd like to hear what y'all think so holla at me. Peace.
